Workshop: Tapestry Weaving – Cobourg

Dates & Time:
Workshop will be held over four weeks on Tuesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 22, 2019 (not Oct 15) – 6-9 PM (fourth session date TBD during the first session, upon everyone’s availability).

Artisanthropy Fibre Arts in downtown Cobourg at 79C King St W

Looms and weaving tools are provided. We will learn about different types of yarns, go through the whole process of planning a project, threading a 4 harness table loom, and weaving one to three tapestries (depending on sizes you choose). Handouts describing the whole process are provided. If you have a table loom you are welcome to bring your own, and preferably we will check the loom before the class time. Tea and snacks will be provided. Feel free to bring your supper if that works best for you.

Materials List – Please Bring:

  • Tape Measure (cloth or plastic, not metal)
  • Scissors (the sharper the better)
  • 3 Paper grocery bags or wrapping paper, preferably sheets larger than 8.5 x 11
  • Small ball of plain white string, or yarn that is not precious, to use for making markers, etc.
  • An old piece of fabric or clean rag, approximately 2 foot square, to cut into strips
  • Pen and paper or small notebook for notes
  • Yarn for your first project: bring from your own stash, or purchase at Artisanthropy. You will need:
approximately 300 grams of wool or wool/acrylic blend yarn, (in at least two colours that you like and will be happy looking at and working with!) You will be able to use small amount of many colors, so this is a great way to use up lots of small pieces of yarn if you are inclined to multiple colors. The yarns can be varying weights, but better if not the thin sock yarn, best to be worsted weight or chunky.
Note : If yarns are in skeins, you will want them to be wound into balls before the class time.

All materials for this class purchased at Artisanthropy will be eligible for a 15% discount.
